Cancer Patient Get a Surprise Call from President Obama President Obama makes a surprise call to Gail O’Brien, a woman in Keene, NH that is benefiting from the Affordable Care Act Gail was previously uninsured and diagnosed with high grade non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Thanks to the new law Gail now has insurance through the new Pre-Existing Condition Insurance Plan that will pay for her treatments, and she is responding very well.

One more detail that was buried within the Healthcare reform bill, found in section 9006, is the requirement for every business to file a 1099-MISC form for each vendor from which the business purchases good or services of more than 0 in any calendar year. The purpose of this section is to collect an approximated billion a year in lost tax revenue on income that is not reported to the IRS. While the goal of collecting all legitimate tax revenue is praiseworthy, this is not a very effective way to achieve this goal.

An incredible 20% of adult Americans state that they are not able to afford acceptable health care according to the latest statistics released by the Centers for Disease Control. So, are you amongst the more than 40 million people who cannot sleep comfortably in their beds at night for fear of not being able to pay for the cost of medical treatment should you have an illness or accident? More to the point, have you got to be amongst the 40 million?
The CDC report which was published in 2007 and explored health care throughout the United States looked in detail at various aspects of health care and revealed amongst other things that:
1. 10% of people are presently unable to meet the cost of prescription medication.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi, House Leaders, Committee Chairs and newer Members of Congress held an enrollment ceremony in the Rayburn Room of the Capitol this morning to sign the revised Health Care and Education Reconciliation Act and send it to President Obama for his signature into law. The House passed the bill last night, which completes Congressional work on health insurance reform, by a vote of 220 to 207; the Senate passed it yesterday afternoon by a vote of 56 to 43.

“The surprise of this poll is that you would expect people to be more supportive of the bill now that it’s the law of the land — and that’s not the case,” said Robert Blendon, a Harvard public health professor who follows opinion trends on health care. “The election for the House is going to be competitive, and health care is clearly going to be an issue.”
