Justice Stevens is a very old man, and I do not begrudge him his retirement – but I could go either way on my opinion of this. Do you think that he just decided that it was time, or do you think there was some pressure from the White House?

The reason I ask is that things have already heated up in Washington, and Obama has said that he wants to make a quick appointment with a quick confirmation so that the new Justice will be seated by the fall.

Hmmm – that sounds very political to me – that Obama wants to take advantage of what political clout he still has so he can do with this appointment what he did with the health care reform.
