How Should a Receptionist Handle This?
Question by Charmed: How should a receptionist handle this?
I work for an insurance agency as their receptionist, and the agents do a lot of cold calling. Quite often during the day I get calls back from people who want to know why I just called their phone number. The best I can come up with is that “one of our agents probably tried to contact you regarding health insurance.” Then they ask the company name again and usually tell me to tell them off my list. They are almost always rude. First of all, I have no control over these calls – second, I have no list to take them off of.
What is the most polite way of handling this??

Sounds like you handle it well. Just don’t take their rudeness personally! The don’t know you, they just don’t want calls from insurance companies!

Q&A: What Steps to Take if a Medical Receptionist Is Spreading Personal Medical Information About Me?
Question by Miz_Kassandra: What steps to take if a medical receptionist is spreading personal medical information about me?
Ok, here is the story.
Im pregnant. But we were not telling anyone because it might end in miscarriage.
A worker in my doctors office took it upon herself (sadly, they are an alcoholic and dont know how they have a job) to drunkenly tell a bunch of people that I was pregnant.
My family didnt even know yet. Im only 10 weeks.
I spoke to the doctor. Its a private practice. She said she would “talk” to her. Well, a few nights later, same drunk receptionist was complaining that *I* got her in trouble, and whats the big deal….why keep it a secret.
BECAUSE ITS MY RIGHT! Thats why.
Is This Health Insurance Fraud?
ok, first of all I work for a doctors office as a receptionist. a while ago I was on myspace looking at one of my friend’s profile, and you know how one profile leads, to another, and so on. Well, I see one of my patient’s profile ‘jane doe” and i notice that she has a different name, then i realize that she has a twin sister but a fatter version claims to be “janice doe”
point is…i think my patient “jane doe” is using her obese twin sister;s (janice doe) insurance!!
what do i do? should i report my suspicions to the insurance company or my boss? but im also afraid that my boss might not care in fear of loosing money….i would
