Ideational Leadership in German Welfare State Reform: How Politicians and Policy Ideas Transform Resilient Institutions

Used – This book argues that ‘ideational leaders’ have had an important impact on structural social policy reforms in Germany. The argument is based on in-depth case studies of individual reforms in health care, pensions and unemployment insurance since the early 1990s. Moreover, the book offers a long-term perspective on policy change in these fields and in another area which has recently seen considerable reforms, family policy. The study concludes that this traditionally Bismarckian welfare s

No Wonder Nothing Ever Gets Done: Politicians Is Just Another Way of Spelling, “Lo, It Is Panic!”

No Wonder Nothing Ever Gets Done: Politicians is Just Another Way Of Spelling, “Lo, it is Panic!”

One overarching problem many Americans have always had with the political class is that there seldom, if ever, seems to be a plan behind their madness. They seem to careen from crisis to crisis, wasting time and our freedom, but never solving anything. All of their efforts seem quite shallow, never understanding the root causes of a problem and never understanding the potential, unintended consequences of their actions, consequences that are usually bad.

In looking at the word “politicians” recently it came to me that one reason they may never plan ahead and execute a good plan is that if you rearrange the letters in “politicians” you end up with the distressing phrase, “Lo, it is panic!” No wonder they never get anything right, they are always working in a panic mode. Consider:

Q&A: Who Gave More Money to Politicians During the 2008 Election Cycle?

Question by che_obama: Who gave more money to politicians during the 2008 election cycle?
Did “Big Oil” give more to the Republicans, or did “Big Law” give more to the Democrats?

How does this play into the health care reform debate?

From “the Big Dig” to Drugs, Is It Possible for US Politicians to Be Competent and Honest?

Question by Been There: From “The Big Dig” to Drugs, is it possible for US politicians to be competent and honest?
For years, it’s been lies, thievery and blunders at the core of American politics:

Decades ago…
“The Big Dig — America’s Greatest Highway Robbery”

http://www.bigdighighwayrobbery.com/

[excerpt]
“The main tunnel through the city has been named after the late Thomas P. “Tip” O’Neill, Massachusetts Congressman and Speaker of the House from 1977-87, who was instrumental in getting federal funding for the Big Dig. An honest, highly-respected politician, he’d undoubtedly be turning over in his grave if he knew how the project became a rip-off of historic proportions.”

So You Vote for Politicians to Solve “your” Problems?

Question by Use facts not spin: So you vote for politicians to solve “your” problems?
Isn’t that what causes social addictions? Depleted treasury? State and fed IOU’s? Congressional emergency sessions so congress can borrow more foreign money from China just to make sure government workers get a pay check — all because the friggen money is gone???? How much spending of OPM is enough? When we will stop voting for politicians on the basis of how much they’ll take care of your life because you chose not to? When is it enough???

Look at these morons in congress. If any one of them conducted them self this way in the private sector, they’d be fired in a NY second. Why do you hold them to a lower standard? The president goes play golf for 26 days of the first 56 of the oil disaster, then surfaces his head and bashed everyone else for not doing “their jobs”??? WTF is that?

In the Context of the Current Healthcare Debate, Which Lie by the Politicians Is Most Upsetting to YOU?

Question by Just Me: In the context of the current healthcare debate, which lie by the politicians is most upsetting to YOU?
1. “If you like it you can keep it”
FACTCHECK!
To be fair, Pelosi’s bill does not literally outlaw your current insurance company, nor does it outlaw your employer from continuing to offer the current options. But that’s about where it ends. The current bills are so disruptive to the current healthcare cost structure that it is absolutely irresponsible for the President to be claiming “if you like it you can keep it” since in all likelihood the decision will not be yours to make. Moreover, everyone who has looked closely at the design of Pelosi’s bill is lying if they don’t admit it is designed to run the private insurers out of business leaving us bankrupt with a gov’t-run single-payer system. By the way, the latest is that Obama & Pelosi are trying to use the word “co-operative” in place of “public option” though it is still just a single-payer trojan horse since the tax-payer is on the hook for the cost, especially once the private insurers shut down and bow to their rule-making counterpart.
