Where Can I Find Billing Codes for My Visit to the ER?

hospital billing mistakes
Melissa C asked:

I read an article that hospitals often make mistakes when they bill you, and that there are websites where you can put in the codes on your bill to see what it’s for in plain English (not the medical jargon they use on the bill) to get a better idea of whether you’re being charged for tests they didn’t perform.
(ie. I have a charge named PA SURG 50545, with a SVC code 53473 – what’s that for?
