Your Opinion as to Why Insurance Costs (Medical) Are So High? What Do You Think Can Be Done?

I’ve worked in insurance & the medical field & the fraud that goes on is a huge cause of high ins costs. More should be done to crack down on the people & institutions committing the fraud.

In the hospital I worked at, during a surgery case you maybe used two strips of elastoplast to hold a dressing on. The patient is charged for the whole role. This was also the case with regular tape.

My friend had a C-section & had to pay it all for lack of ins. She went over the bill & got $700 taken off it. They had charged her for a certain medication 3 x a day & she only took 2 pills. They charged her for sitz baths for her episiotomy, which she never had because she had a c-section. She found a few other discrepancies also. If you don’t see your bill, your ins co may be being charged for things you didn’t even receive.

I have health insurance through my employment and another insurance through my mom’s. I just had a procedure earlier today and asked the registrar upfront before the procedure of they could co-bill both insurances at the same time, and she adviced not to, and adviced me to let all my doctors know that i have another insurance, and that i would be in big trouble. i really am confused on what’s going on. can anyone help me please? thanks
I appreciate all the info guys. the thing is that I use my mom’s insurance as my primary since all the facilities and providers I see and get my procedures done are under the same name, and my mom works in a hospital under the same name.
I guess what I really want to know is what I need to do at this point to avoid getting into trouble.
I remember giving BOTH insurance information in one procedure way back (blood draw) but still paid the same co-pay amount for my mom’s insurance.

Can a Qualified Individual Tell Me, Is This Insurance Fraud?

JAN asked:

I was hurt on the job and made a report of injury. My regular insurance covered the costs except my co-pays, and I did tell them this was a work related injury. Now the workers compensation insurance company has offered to pay all outstanding medical bills, which would be the co-pays. Would this be legal? I know all medical cost where from my work related injury and they went well over a hundred thousand dollars. This seems like fraud against my regular insurance carrier.
