Question by renee: How to deal with debt? More info on filing for bankruptcy? What can creditors do 2 help with interest on debt?
I would like more info on how filing for bankruptcy is done? My husband an I have alot of debt. I hurt my back in 2004. We paid for medical bills using our credit cards thinking I would be able to get back to work in no time. With him the only one working at the time we kept using the credit cards to pay for my meds and now we are at our limit and he has been let go from his job he had for over 10 years. This isn’t the first time they let him go but this time its for good. While we are waiting to hear about unemployment and if it will go threw we have little cash and lots of unpaid bills. We don’t know where to begin an losing hope fast. Has anyone been threw this and found a way to pay off debt or lower the interest rates? We are wanting more into on filing for bankruptcy and if we don’t own anything “put up our car to pay off some of the medical bills” how does filing for bankruptcy work? Do you have to pay the money back after you file? After 7yrs will we ever have a good credit?

Q&A: How Can My Boyfriend Get Creditors to Stop Calling Him?

Question by jeanbee86: How can my boyfriend get creditors to stop calling him?
Three years ago, my boyfriend’s mom had a stroke. She was put in a nursing home for a few months but then returned back to live at her house, with my boyfriend, ever since. About two months ago, my boyfriend started getting calls from ECO (I think that’s their name), a creditor company stating that since they failed to pay a bill, it went into collections and was now hundreds of dollars! My boyfriend handles everything for his mother, and knew he had paid all of the bills they had gotten so he was puzzled. When he tried to find out more about the bill, the person on the phone became rude and tried to scare him by saying if he didn’t give out his mom’s banking info to pay the bill, it would go up daily (he didn’t of course). He asked for a bill to be mailed to him, and when they received it, it was very vauge and looked like something anyone could type up. It didn’t specify what the bill was for, it just said “hospital”, and showed the mom’s insurance information (which by the way, this “bill” didn’t get sent to). It also had been sent to his mom’s nursing home address originally after she had returned home, and because of this never got a chance to see the original bill, nor a chance to pay it (or they would have). Since they never got to see the original bill, and have no clue what it is for, my boyfriend and his mom are reluctant to pay it, as it could be a scam. Who can they turn to for help in handling this matter?

How Can I Legally Disassociate Myself From My Father?

medical billing fraud
Chris Taylor asked:

This is a follow-up question to my earlier question. I apparently wasn’t clear enough, thus inviting useless answers. I am 22 years old and have not been in contact with my father in about 3 years. In the last 3 years, however, I’ve received numerous calls from creditors contending that I owed thousands of dollars in medical bills plus additional interest. Payment of these bills is legally the responsibility of my father, as I was a minor at the time of illness . I’ve managed to turn the creditors back in his direction. However, I’m again receiving calls from creditors who claim I owe thousands more…but these bills are my father’s own! I want to prevent his leaving his debt to me now and after death, and to ensure that he receives no part of my estate, should something happen to me. A living will has been suggested, as has been filing fraud charges. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Please do not bother to comment on how he’s my father, I can’t change that fact, etc. Thanks!
