Q&A: Are Medical Billing “certificates” Required to Work in a Skilled Nursing Facility in California?

Question by donmiller23chicago: Are medical billing “certificates” required to work in a Skilled Nursing Facility in California?
I currently work for a Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) here in Illinois, and I’m thinking of moving to California. However, I *heard a rumor* that billing certificates are required in California in order to work at a SNF. I’ve tried searching online, but the most I come up with are schools offering courses to get a certificate. I cannot find anything that’s related to a government rule stating this as a requirement.

Here in Illinois, a certificate is NOT required. However, if a certificate is required in California – will they look at the 7 years I’ve worked as a biller? I mean, it’s kind of ridiculous to spend all of that money to go to school when I’ve been doing this for so long.

DOes This SEem Like FRaUD or a SCAm? HELP?
