I always wanted a “credit card” come to find out someone opened a target card in my name- and charged a couple hundred dollars and now they are after me to pay them. I am wondering and I know this is wierd, but now I am more screwed….Can i try to negotiate with Target to get the card back? I want the target card, i’ll pay the bill. I think paying the $200 is worth it to have the card to actually use. i dont know how long it has been in collections, but when i moved here to my new place about 6 months ago i started to recieve phone calls and letters. Or is it better to just report it as fraud? what will that do to my credit? They said it wasnt an application that someone filled out. It was an offer on a reciept that i threw out offering the card with just a signature or something-which is odd. thanks in advance!

Years ago in my youth… I went to a vocational school designed to teach the trade of Medical Assistance. Well I was passing and doing well until the last class, Medical Billing. The Medical Billing teacher quit and the school was unable to hire another teacher.

After making payments directly to the school I foolishly took out a student loan for the remaining $3400 and put a $400 cash payment down. Well after I took out the loan along with several other students the school closed down without notice!

I was out of the money, education and still responsible for paying back the loan even though I didn’t have atransfer transfer with transcripts for another school.

The original loan holder never came after me. I asked for a loan forgiveness considering what the school did and I believed they granted it. The original loan holder sold the debt to a collection agency and now ten years later the creditor is after me for over $4000! After contacting the state and Washington DC I found out the school never existed. The $4000 isn’t enough for a lawyer to fight. The department of education will not get involved because this was never listed as a school loan. After receiving a verification from the collection agency I saw the original contract was made under a retail loan installment with the school’s name on it. No one person’s name is legible on the contract and I have no one to complain to about a non-existant school or business (it was never registered). When I contacted the big credit agencies they verified the loan on my credit once they saw the original retail loan installment contract.

This was a fraud altogether! I have no other outstanding bills and yes I later enrolled in college and I’m almost finished paying off my Sallie Mae loan. However, I can’t get this removed or get the collection agency off my back. If I’d finished the school or dropped out I would pay it back but they closed without notice one morning out of the blue.

Any directions on how I can fight this? Where else can I try?

One of her former home health care workers opened several credit accounts in my grandmother’s name, and on almost all of them she used my SSN to name me an “authorized user” which meant that she had a card to play with and so did her sister. They’ve charged up about $78,000 work of stuff that we know about ranging from platinum cards from Chase to Gateway computers, Cingular Wireless accounts, Home Depot and Nordstrom charge accounts.

The only way my grandma and dad found out about this is that several collection and credit companies were harassing her about accounts she’s never heard of. She’s 84 and senile. I had no idea until I got back that I am also being pursued for these debts. The nurse aide went so far as to put in a change of address for me through the post office so I never EVER saw a statement or bill.

What should I do???
My credit is in shambles now, but it was PRISTINE before all of this. My dad is working on clearing my grandmother in all of this with the credit bureaus, using the police report(s), but what should I do about my own? Do I need to send letters to the three reporting agencies with copies of the reports explaining the fraud? HELP!

All of my plans have been totally put on ice because of this. I had planned on buying a house and now I’m scared my employer will run a credit report and be all “Heeeey, she can’t work for us anymore! Look at that FICO! Ew!”

My son was hospitalized in 05 and the bills were sent to the ins. co. with me (his mother) as the pt. My ins. co started to pay but then received bills in my sons name. There were many double billing errs. After some time, this mess was rectifyed. My ins. company paid the allowed amts on all hospital and doctor bills and we paid our co-pay.

Time passed, about 8 months, when my son got a call from a collection agent stating he owed more money. When we attempted to get a copy of the billing statement the MD office stated that it had been sent to collection; we should contact them. We have made numerous calls and are always put on hold for an extended perior of time or sent to a full voice mail box. We would pay the amt. if we only knew what we were paying. What recourse do we have? Chris

When I was 19 years old I became very ill very suddenly and was taken into the emergency room by an ambulance. I was unconscious for most of the episode, I did not give the hospital any information, I did not sign anything at all; at the time I was homeless.

I was never billed for the treatment.

Here I am 8 years later. I was refused financing based on a collection on file. When I checked my credit report I had a collection with a company called Credit Control Corporation for over $3000.00 dollars. The address listed on my credit report was an address that I haven’t lived at since I was 17. The hospital gave the collection company outdated and completely invalid (even when I was 19) contact information and as a result it my credit was ruined. Is there anything that I can do other than just pay the bill? I don’t feel that I should be held responsible for the hospital’s mistake.
