Help! I Know I Commited Bank Fraud?
Ok, I know most of the answers I’m going to receive are “go to jail, you’re dumb, etc”. Please, I need help! I’m a 21 year old female college student (graduating with my BS on May 11th). I really messed up. My school schedule has restricted me to where I can’t work anymore. My father was paying for my apartment and bills and he recently became sick and has spent all of his money on medical bills. For the past few months, I’ve been writing checks from one of my bank accounts to the other and withdrawing the money to pay my bills. I honestly just thought I would have 2 eventually pay it back. Now I realize it’s illegal. My bbt account balance is negative $1800, Wachovia -$1300 and Credit Union -$1600. (about 1000 is overdraft fees total from all) I know this is a lot of money! My banks obviously have figured this out and I have no way to pay it back. I can’t even get approved for a loan. I don;t know what to do. Please give me advice. I know i messed up but I don;t want to ruin my future
I now have a job and I start tomorrow. However, I only get paid once every two weeks. I don’t want to be charged criminally in the meantime. I’m so stressed out. I can’t believe I did this. I honestly didnt realize this was illegal. I just thougt at most I would get an even worse credit rating.
Graduate, get a job and talk to your banks. Keep in mind that at this point no job is beneath you. You’ve already reached bottom with your illegal activities. Start paying back that debt.
I don’t know what to suggest. Perhaps contact a lawyer that takes on free cases…. :( I’m so sorry to hear this.
At this point you are going to have to get help. The only way the banks are going to look the other way is if you pay off the money within 14 to 25 days. Each bank has their own policy. I would suggest going to family and informing them about what happened. Aunts and Uncles might be inclined to help you more than anyone else.
If none of this has been reported yet you can seek a loan from an outside source like Citi Financial, but you will need to be able to document income.
If you are not working at this point or work in a dead end job I would suggest you get a higher paying job. If this does go to court you will want to show a good faith desire to pay the money back. Hense the job.
Depending on your future profession you might even be able to get a highering bonus from a job related to your degree. If you choose to go that route I would suggest you take 2 or 3 days to meditate on you NOT having these money issues. You are THE WOMAN. You are worth every penny you are asking for and you can prove it. You are NOT asking for a chance, you are giving them the benefit of having you work for them. basically you are going to have to sell yourself.
You may have been born at night-but NOT LAST NIGHT!!! You were “kiting”, and you knew that was wrong. What were you possibly thinking? I too am a college student and I work. If I realized my father was no longer going to support me I’d drop my classes and bust my ass and get a job. This is a very serious situation; not only is it illegal but probably a felony. How are you going to find a job after college with that on your record? Hard times are had by many, but you really made a mistake. You could possibly try to discuss this with thr bank, but other than that, you’ll probably do a little time.
Call the bank and tell them someone stole your checks and is writing bad checks. this will get you off the hook. here is what the best lawyers say.

I disagree. I think you should be honest with the banks. I think you should split up your first check three ways and show them some good intent to pay the bills. If you try to “blame” this on someone else and cry “fraud” you are going to have to file a police report….just making it worse for yourself (you’re already in for fraud, don’t add writing a false police report to your record).
I also think you should beg from family and borrow money from whoever will give you a loan. Now is the time to start working two jobs, sell your blood, and pawn your TV if you have to to make some quick cash.
Learn from this. You are young and OH so dumb. Never mess around with money again…whether it be yours or someone elses.
