I have a friend who is trying to get health insurance but has run into a roadblock. This friend has never had insurance and has therefore paid for any doctors visits with cash. She lost all of her records in a storm (this is Florida) and therefore doesnt know how to answer the questions on the insurance application. She isnt a law breaker, just wants to know how to proceed to avoid breaking the law. Thanks a lot for the input

She should answer to the best of her ability. No one really remembers the exact date of a doctor’s visit on an application, anyway — if it makes your friend nervous, have her mark “all dates approximate” on the app.
However, that’s no excuse for not listing any serious issues, even if the dates aren’t exact.
If she has a “preexisting condition”, she should list it. She just has to be honest.
Which question is she having trouble with, that would be easier to answer.
She should answer the questions to the best of her ability. If she’s not sure, it’s best to answer yes and let the underwriter make the decision.
Does her Dr. office have a computer system? They should be able to print her a summary of visits along with anything she has paid.
She should just answer honestly. Even if there is no record & something creeps up then the insurance company may be able to prove it was preexisting & there won’t be coverage. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did.
