How Are ER Visits Billed?

Jolly asked:

I had a severe allergic reaction at work a couple of weeks ago and I was rushed by ambulance to the hospital. When I left I noticed the paperwork they gave me had an incorrect address (street spelled wrong and city was wrong). I called them up and corrected the mistakes and gave them my insurance info over the phone since I didn’t have it with me in the ER. The woman on the phone said I would get a bill in a week or so. Does this cover the ambulance ride too? I’m worried that somehow I’ve overlooked something and it will end up on my credit report because they couldn’t find me with the wrong address. The ambulance that picked me up was not associated specifically with the hospital I went to. Do I need to make some more phone calls to get this resolved? I have never had anything like this happen to me before.

the ambulance service charge is a separate bill. it depends how long ago you received services whether it was referred to a collection service, but you should be ok. just talk to the hospitals billing service

You may get several bills from that visit. The ambulance is usually separate and it’s possible your doctor, xrays, labs, and radiologist will bill separately. Just keep track of the bills, and if you can’t pay the entire amount ask to make payment arrangements. This should keep your credit clear.

Is this a Workman’s comp? You said it happened at work. If you got this as a result of your job ask the boss about Workman’s comp insurance.
